Interactive video installation for the launch of XQ Studio / House of Body Autonomy
Opening on November 13, 2026.
Exploring the "latency" between our physical existence and our digital identity. Because autonomy doesn't stop at the skin, it extends to the light we cast.
By Maanila Santos de Moraes Commissioned for the opening of XQ Studio / House of Body Autonomy, Vienna.
Reclaiming the Digital Shadow In a space dedicated to the radical autonomy of the physical body, Latency Ghost explores the digital frontier of self-determination.
The installation serves as a multisensory mirror, capturing the movement of visitors and reprojecting it with a deliberate temporal delay "latency." This ghosting effect creates a dialogue between the immediate physical presence and the digital trace we leave behind.
Piercing the Norm Aligning with XQ Studio’s mantra "We don’t decorate bodies. We defend them" this work rejects the superficiality of traditional video art. Instead of passive consumption, Latency Ghost demands interaction. It uses audio-reactive mapping and real-time processing to visualize the body’s energy, transforming the studio into a "safer space" where the boundaries between biological existence and technological expansion are blurred.
Utilizing mapping, the installation projects onto the architectural essence of the House of Body Autonomy.
By manipulating the "latency" of the video feed, the artist invites the audience to confront their own digital autonomy.
It is a fusion of sound, light, and movement that mirrors the precision of a piercing—intentional, transformative, and resistant to heteronormative or restrictive norms.
The Vision As a permanent or recurring fixture, Latency Ghost adds a layer of "speculative future" to XQ Studio.
It reminds us that our bodies are not just sites of biological resistance, but also the epicenters of our digital identities.
Here, the "ghost" is not a haunting of the past, but a projection of a future where we own every version of ourselves.
